Thurston County Medic One EMT Class

The Thurston County EMT Class is an intense course in pre-hospital emergency medicine. It lasts about three months and is very challenging. The class is offered two times a year.

The EMT-B course teaches initial evaluation, treatment and transport of patients with medical problems and/or trauma. Students learn to recognize and provide initial care for ailments like shock, heart problems, breathing problems, strokes, burns, diabetes, drowning and accidents.

EMT-Basics are the foundation of American pre-hospital Emergency Medical Care. For medical emergencies, they provide rapid response, initial evaluation and care, and transport to an appropriate medical facility. They also provide transport between facilities for people who are bedridden and/or require continuous monitoring and care.

To obtain an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification you must complete an EMT course and pass the Washington State written/practical tests. The initial EMT training is provided by the department and taught by Thurston County Medic One.

Once completed many doors open up for the new EMT. In our Department you will go from an observer to an active member of our EMS team on medical calls. Outside of our Department you will become eligible to apply to private ambulance companies and professional fire departments. If you are looking for a career in the fire service, the EMT certification is the first step.
